      The first 17 books of the Old Testament are considered historical, because they outline the history of the Hebrew people. They discuss the creation of man and the development of the nation of Israel. The first five (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) are also known at the Pentateuch, and they define Hebrew law. The four tables give the most commonly accepted dates or ranges of dates for the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible, the Deuterocanonical books (included in Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox bibles, but not in the Hebrew and Protestant bibles) and the New Testament, including, where possible, hypotheses about their formation-history..
